When Man and Nature join their skills...

I love nature and documentaries that make us discover the diversity of our planet.
The French channel France5 uses to broadcast many docs produced by the BBC.
This is how I've found one of the wonders that are (or should I say 'were'?) the result
of a fantastic and useful collaboration between man and environment.
Oncle Google allowed me to learn more about these living root bridges:

AtlasObscura brings together information - about the root bridges of Cherrapunji,
(in the Meghalaya region), Bangladesh, India, - gathered by
Bertieinindia, Wythe,
Michelle, Dylan, Nicholas Jackson, Rick, Martofkukuf, Seth Teicher.

At the base of India's Meghalaya Plateau, the local tribes have created bridges across
the area's rivers using living tree roots and branches. These bridges last for hundreds
of years (the lifetime of the tree)... More on

Our Planet is Talking...

The day before French people pacifically take over the Bastille...
... greenpeace assaulted the Eiffel tower :

"Since coming into power in May 2007, President Nicolas Sarkozy
has been aggressively promoting nuclear energy, and attempting
to sell French reactors at every turn.
His government has signed agreements on nuclear exports and
cooperation with nine Mediterranean and Middle East countries in
the last year".

"Nuclear energy undermines the solutions to climate change by diverting
urgently needed resources away from the true renewable and energy
efficiency solutions.
Our
Energy [R]evolution blueprint shows that renewable energy, and greater
energy efficiency can deliver half of the world’s energy needs by 2050,
without nuclear power". (...)

For a GMO-free Europe !

Christian Vélot petition (en)
The biotech industry is working very hard to suppress independent science and scientists; working through the very academic institutions that are supposed to defend them.

We must do all we can to show our support as citizens and fellow scientists, and to send a clear message to the University administration that their action will not be tolerated.

Support Christian Vélot, Pierre Meneton, Véronique Lapides.

Sept. 2010 update > Germany has banned the cultivation of GM corn, claiming that MON 810 is dangerous for the environment. But that argument might not stand up in court and Berlin could face fines totalling millions of euros if American multinational Monsanto decides to challenge the prohibition on its seed.
