Bad news from Lagos

Well-known Art Market of Maiyegun (Lekki, Lagos) to find it bulldozed without warning
by forces of the Lagos State Government. According to eye witnesses several persons
received gunshots, one died.
The market, home for about 120 artists from the African Pride of Art & Crafts, was completely
destroyed today and many more people lost hope and income. Properties and artwork valued
provisionally at 30-40 million Naira was destroyed, unnecessarily.

Why ? Lucas Ajanaku, (Tell Magazine, Nigeria's independent weekly), explains :
"Tension mounts in the host communities of the proposed Lekki Free Trade Zone
over unfulfilled promised in the purported memorandum of understanding signed

Monte Narba, an abandoned mine I've recorded for you.

Monte Narba is the site of an old mine's district (silver ore) in south/east Sardinia,
Sarrabus' hills, Italy.
Closed down and deserted for too many years - it was operating mostly from 17th
to the beginning of 19th century. it will probably come back to life one of these days
as a... well, let's wait and see.

VELIB ATTACKS !

Le système de vélos en libre-service "Vélib"

a été lancé ce dimanche 15 juillet à Paris.

Plus de 10.000 vélos, repartis entre 750 stations, à la disposition des abonnés. 
De nombreuses villes françaises et européennes proposent déjà ce service, couplé à la 
gestion du mobilier urbain. 
Un service appelé à se développer au cours des prochaines années et à s'exporter à 
l'international. 

Et voilà qui est bien !

Ce qui est moins bien ce sont les répercussions côté Griset 
du chantier de rénovation de la Maison des Métallurgistes...

Le projet avait pourtant été accueilli avec sympatie, dans le quartier, en 2005, mais...
Au mois de juillet 2006, un beau matin, deux voisins du 3e étage se sont plaints d'avoir 
reçu sur la figure des petits grâvats au cours de la nuit. En effet des fissures avaient apparu
au plafond, qui se sont rapidement transformées en lézardes.

D'autres voisins, non fumeurs, du 4e étage ont commencé à profiter des odeurs de tabac 
en provenance du 3e étage. Certaines portes et fenêtres commençaient à se bloquer...

Tout ça venait déjà de se produire, en pire, dans l'immeuble juxtant le chantier, au 
moment où on creusait le sol pour créér la fameuse salle de 300 places, en niveau bas.





Le rapport de cause à effet semble indéniable, l'immeuble près du chantier s'affaisse et 
entraîne le nôtre... et pourtant il a bien fallu emprunter le parcours du combattant :

- Ordonnance de Référé, 
- Nomination d'un expert par le Tribunal de Grande 
Instance de Paris,
- Expertise suggérant que les immeubles "s'affaissent 
spontanément",- Exploration à la fibre optique des canalisations et autres égouts... 
... mais celle-ci n'a révélé aucune cause d'affaissement.
